Design Concepts Applied Using Industry Examples
By: Leanne Friedli, Ph.D.
Abstract:
Delivering a product that satisfies the customer’s requirements and expectations in today’s volatile and competitive market takes careful planning and effort, which should result in an overall good design. Leadership, design requirements, and the triple constraints of cost, quality, and schedule should be taken into consideration. Although design requirements should be defined early in the project, the requirements should be considered fluid. The overall design should be dynamic and able to adapt to any reasonable changes in the specification.
Examples of how projects are affected by successful/unsuccessful leadership and teamwork will be
discussed. Finally, the interaction of the triple constraints will be covered with focus given to the negative effects.
