Specializations
The Undergraduate Curriculum grants biomedical engineering students knowledge of and exposure to a broad range of topics within the profession. Because of the curriculum’s breadth, the BME department created a collaborative, organized list of recommended classes and research opportunities to help students focus on their specific areas of interest. The specializations listed below represent these efforts. The classes and research opportunities in each provide valuable experience to be used in interviews and planning future career paths, as well as introducing the student to professors working within the field of interest and any opportunities that may arise from such a connection.
Please Note:
Specializations are guidelines and are not necessary for graduation. Specializations do not appear on the student’s diploma during graduation. Students can take courses from as many specializations as they prefer. It is recommended, but not required, that students take at least two to three classes within a specialization to claim it. Students do NOT need to take every course listed under a specialization. Specializations do not grant students any special standing: each student must still meet ALL course requirements during enrollment and must apply to research opportunities following each P.I.'s specific instructions. Some graduate-level classes are listed within each specialization. These classes can be taken by first seeking approval from the Office of Engineering, located in Featheringill Hall.
