The Vanderbilt Career Center (VCC) hosted the Engineering and Information Technology Industry Career Day at the Student Life Center with 37 companies from across the nation in attendance on October 5. Industry Career Days serve as one of many ways to interact with potential employers. Nearly 400 undergraduate and graduate students attended seeking internship opportunities and post-graduate positions.
“Recruiters came in from all across the U.S. representing a variety of industries from energy to construction to medical devices, but all with one goal in mind: to gain access to Vanderbilt’s top engineering talent,” said Elizabeth Scutchfield , VCC career advisor who was the team lead for the Career Day. “This was also an opportunity for some successful alumni to come back to re-connect with their alma mater, including Connie Smith from Exxon and John Gas from Chevron.”
The Industry Career Days are invitation-only events which offer a smaller, more intimate atmosphere in order to facilitate connections between employers and Vanderbilt’s top talent. Students attend these events seeking full-time and internship opportunities and to connect with companies of interest.
“With a 50% increase in student attendance, it is clear that Vanderbilt students are ready to embrace the opportunities available to them through on-campus recruiting, as provided by the Vanderbilt Career Center,” Scutchfield said.
VCC designs and delivers services that seek to connect students, alumni and employers for mutual benefit. Working in collaboration with faculty and campus partners, the VCC staff assists students in the development of individual action plans that make the most of their Vanderbilt education, resources and connections to secure employment.
