Nearly 550 first-year through Ph.D. students attended the Engineering and Information Technology Industry Career Day in the Student Life Center ballrooms Sept. 25. Job seekers and students searching for internships networked with 61 companies from across the nation.

The fair is hosted by the Center for Student Professional Development and offers a smaller, more intimate atmosphere in order to facilitate connections between employers and Vanderbilt’s top talent.

The fall event attracted nearly 140 recruiters with 42 engineering faculty in attendance.  New companies included: OneSubSea, Video Gaming Technologies, Noranda, Crowe Horwath LLP, NCR Corporation, Rustici Software, Fast Enterprises, Hitachi Automotive Systems and NextGxDx.

The Center for Student Professional Development exists to help students effectively develop their professional capabilities, define their identities and build resilience as they prepare for employment in a rapidly changing world. The Center provides many opportunities for students to learn about and explore professional opportunities, including career coaching appointments, workshops, career panels, Industry Career Days and field trips.

In partnership with the Dean’s Office, the Center also hosted a pre-fair coffee where faculty learned about employer talent needs and industry trends, and employers learned about the engineering student talent pool and the educational preparation they receive.

The spring Engineering and Information Technology Career Day will be Feb. 11, 2014.
