An engineering professor who serves in the Army Reserve told Chicago teens they must be ready to replace a generation of retiring engineers, and the problems they’ll solve will be tougher than any found in textbooks.
Col. Eugene J. LeBoeuf, chief of staff of the 416th Theater Engineer Command, is a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Vanderbilt University and associate chair of the department. He spoke to students earlier this month at the Chicago Military Academy–Bronzeville.
The future engineers said they were encouraged by LeBoeuf’s message.
“It opened me up to a whole lot of paths I’m able to pursue later in life,” said cadet Lt. Col. Gregory Holmes, JROTC battalion commander.
