Gabor Karsai, a Distinguished Professor of computer science and professor of electrical and computer engineering, has been elected an External Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Engineering Sciences Section. He will deliver an induction lecture on April 28, 2023.
External and honorary members are elected by their colleagues who are full or corresponding members of HAS. The Academy is a scholarly public body whose main task is the study of science, the publicizing of scientific achievements, and the aid and promotion of research. Its members are academicians.
Karsai received his Diploma, M.Sc., and Dr. Techn. degrees from the Technical University of Budapest, Hungary, in 1982, 1984 and 1988, respectively, and his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University in 1988.
He has over 30 years of experience in software engineering. He is currently Senior Research Scientist at the Institute for Software Integrated Systems (ISIS), which is housed in the School of Engineering and internationally recognized for its impact on the science and technology of integrating computers with physical systems.
Karsai conducts research in the design and implementation of embedded systems, in programming tools for visual programming environments, in the theory and practice of model-integrated computing, and in resource management and scheduling systems. He has also managed several large research projects on model-based integration of embedded systems, model-based toolchains, fault-adaptive control technology, and coordinated scheduling and planning.
Karsai has published over 150 papers and is the co-author of four patents.
