Preliminary design of analog front end circuitry and digitizer for ultrasound imaging system

Brief Description of Project:
The purpose of this project is to develop an ultrasound based vision system for Navy divers performing salvage and or maintenance operations in turbid water conditions.  Initial ultrasound hardware development will facilitate GPU based algorithm development.  This hardware may be further developed and made available as a tool for academic research on other projects.  Ultimate goal will be to repackage and harden the hardware and GPU for use as part of a diver mounted vision system.

Desired Qualifications:
Candidate should have experience developing printed circuit boards using Altium EDA or equivalent software.  Experience developing schematic and PCB library components required.  Ability to research electronic components and perform evaluations necessary to assess suitability for project.    Experience designing and simulating analog and digital circuits desired.  Experience performing signal integrity analysis in Altium EDA desired.  Experience performing signal integrity and EMI analysis in Ansys desired.
Nature of Supervision:
Candidate will work with Don Truex, Research Engineer
A Brief Research Plan (period is for 10 weeks):
1. Brief review of present state of the art in ultrasound analog front end circuitry. Review literature and component manufacturer’s data sheets.
2. Develop plan for overall system design.
3. Create simulation ready schematic and PCB components.
4. Create schematic and perform signal integrity analysis of high speed digital circuits (2Gbps).
5. Create PCB design files and design rules.
6. Perform manual and automatic routing of PCB.
