Senior Ayo Ositelu was recently named the 2009 Young Alumni Trustee on the Vanderbilt University Board of Trust.
Ositelu is a biomedical engineering and mathematics double major from Indianapolis, Ind.
A Chancellor Scholar, Ositelu also is president of the African Students Union, vice president of the Biomedical Engineering Society and Regional Academic Excellence Chair for the National Society of Engineers.
He is a member of the Multicultural Leadership Council, a participant in Alternative Summer Break program, and a former Mr. Commodore university mascot. Ayo has volunteered time with Vanderbilt Students for Science, the Nashville Adult Literacy Council, and Kipp Academy in Nashville.
A YAT slate of seniors Ositelu, Lauren Page Black and Joseph Williams was determined in early February by a panel of juniors and recent graduates.
Members of the classes 2008, 2009 and 2010 were sent online ballots with information about each of the candidates. Voting ended March 20 at midnight.
Voting in the process increased by a record-breaking 60.9 percent, said Christina Barnes, Office of Alumni Relations. There was a 71.5 percent voting increase from students and a 23 percent voting increase from alumni, she said.
If Ositelu is unable to complete his term, Lauren Black will be asked to serve as the Young Alumni Trustee.
