Division of Engineering Science and Management

The Division of Engineering Science and Management serves as both an entry point for incoming School of Engineering students and an interdisciplinary hub, connecting those interested in technology and engineering with disciplines such as business management, economics and communications.

Gear background

Undergraduate Degree Programs

The Division offers an Engineering Science major and an Engineering Management minor in addition to housing the Introduction to Engineering modules.

  • Engineering Science major

This is an interdisciplinary program designed to provide a strong foundation in engineering and science while enabling students to incorporate their special interests or objectives. Graduates earn a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree, and many have gone on to establish careers requiring interaction with engineers or to other roles requiring analytical and systematic problem-solving abilities.

The ES major requires completion of:

    • Basic science and math sequences
    • Engineering fundamentals and core courses from across engineering disciplines
    • Liberal Arts Core
    • Senior Design/Capstone Experience
    • Program Concentration, tailored to the student’s specific interests and career objections

  • Introduction to Engineering modules

All first-year undergraduates in the School of Engineering are required to take Introduction to Engineering, ES 1401-1403. The course is divided into three modules, all of which are taken during the fall semester. The goal of the course is to education students about their choice of engineering majors, to unpack what it means to be an engineer and to provide students with essential tools for further study in engineering.

Students transferring into engineering after their Freshman fall semester will work with their academic advisor to identify a substitute for this required course.

Online Graduate Degree Program

The Division offers a flexible online degree program that is uniquely designed for engineering professionals—and those working in technology fields—to advance their business management and leadership skills. Coursework includes finance and accounting, intellectual property management and project management.

Industry Sponsorship of Student Projects

At Vanderbilt, we believe in immersing our engineering students in real-world projects, working alongside local, state and national corporate and agency partners to develop solutions to complex technical challenges.

  • Senior Design

Senior design project courses provide senior engineering students experience with real-world projects in which they apply their training in their engineering discipline to solve these problems while attending to budgets, reviews and deadlines. (Year-long project starting in the Fall Semester)
