Distinguished awards were presented May 7 to five seniors and three design teams at a reception hosted by the mechanical engineering department in honor of the department’s graduating seniors.
More than 200 people, including seniors and their families, and the ME faculty attended the gala reception in Featheringill Hall’s Adams Atrium.
The ME Program Award for a member of the graduating class judged to have made the greatest progress in professional development was presented to Nicholas Carter Gordon.
The Mechanics and Control Award for an outstanding senior showing the most promise in the study and pursuit of mechanics and control engineering went to Daniel James Strickland. ME chair Robert W. Pitz presented the award to Strickland.
The Thermal-Fluids Award for an outstanding senior showing the most promise in the study and pursuit of thermal and fluids engineering was given to Lester Clifford Longley by ME chair Robert W. Pitz.
There were two recipients of the Leadership Award. This award is for graduating seniors showing outstanding leadership in leading a VUME team at a national engineering competition. Professor A.V. Anilkumar presented the award to William Orval Runge, and Professor A.B. Bonds presented the award to Cody Lyle Mayer.
Three senior design teams were selected by the ME faculty to receive the Senior Design Team Award for showing the most creativity and originality in their designs. The teams are ‘Enhanced Audio Amplifier Cooling System for Gibson Guitar,’ ‘Strain Energy Accumulator,’ and ‘Rocket Launched Reconnaissance UAV.’
