An engineering alumna is one of 21 women featured in an article, “Top Black Women Techies,” appearing this week in The Root, an online news site founded in 2008 under the leadership of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr.
Susan E. Chapman, B.S.’90, Engineering Science, is senior vice president, Global Real Estate and Work Place Enablement at American Express. Chapman has a master’s degree in regional planning from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Before Amex, she was a senior executive at Citigroup and worked as an investment banker. She has been honored for mentoring young people, particularly girls.
Chapman serves on the boards of the Executive Leadership Foundation, The Brotherhood/Sister Sol, Leadership Education and Development (LEAD), The Global Syndicate and the NYU SCHACK Institute of Real Estate Advisory Board.
She has also served on the Dean’s Advisory Board at the University of Wisconsin, School of Business. She is a member The Urban Land Institute, The Executive Leadership Council, and the Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni Association.
Chapman has received numerous awards for her achievements including being named 2008 Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scout Council of Greater New York and the 2007 Distinguished Young Alumni by the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association.
Chapman has been a featured speaker for several organizations including Commercial Real Estate Women, The Harvard Business School Club New York and the Executive Leadership Council and Foundation’s Mid-Level Manager’s Forums. She has also lectured for the MIT-Sloan School of Business Fellows Program.
