Brief Biography

Before joining the Faculty in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering full-time this year, Dr. Byers was an Adjunct Professor in the department for the past eight years. He was a founding partner and Principal with Structural Design Group, a structural consulting firm in Nashville, Tennessee. As a practicing professional engineer for the past 35 years, he has designed building structures in over 20 states. His practice encompasses a wide variety of building uses (educational, healthcare, industrial, institutional, civic, etc.) and material types (structural steel, concrete, masonry, and wood).

Professor Byers has been married for 45 years, has three children, and six grandchildren.
