William Fissell completed undergraduate degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering at MIT, and then completed medical school and an accelerated residency in internal medicine at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. From there, Dr. Fissell pursued tissue engineering of renal replacement therapies with H. David Humes at University of Michigan, where he completed fellowship in nephrology and was appointed as assistant professor of medicine. From there, Dr. Fissell was Associate Staff at Cleveland Clinic for five years before being recruited to Vanderbilt University in 2012.
