Peter Cummings, John R. Hall Professor of Chemical Engineering, emeritus, at Vanderbilt, has been elected a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng), the United Kingdom’s national academy of engineering. The RAEng’s new fellows were announced today at the academy’s annual general meeting. They will be formally admitted to the Academy at a special ceremony in London on Oct. 19, 2026.
Cummings joined the Vanderbilt faculty July 1, 2002, as the inaugural John R. Hall Professor of Chemical Engineering and retired Aug. 15, 2022, and relocated to Edinburgh, Scotland, with his family. Cummings is a Bicentennial Professor at the Edinburgh campus of Heriot-Watt University.
During his 20 years at Vanderbilt, Cummings’ work made a significant impact on the field, resulting in numerous publications, patents, and innovations.
Cummings is a globally recognized expert in molecular modeling and simulations, and he has been pivotal in the acceptance of molecular modeling and simulation as an integral part of chemical engineering. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2023.
