Michael King, J. Lawrence Wilson Professor of Engineering and chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, has been elected chair-elect for the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering’s College of Fellows effective on March 25, 2022.
Election to chair of AIMBE Fellows is a distinctive honor. King will serve one year as chair-elect and as chair for one year. As part of his duties as chair-elect, King will be responsible for directing the nomination, review, and election of new candidates to the AIMBE College of Fellows.
The College of Fellows is comprised of the top 2% of medical and biological engineers. College membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to engineering and medicine research, practice, or education and to the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of medical and biological engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to bioengineering education.
King holds a joint appointment in radiology and radiological sciences and he is an internationally renowned researcher and scholar. He works at the interface among cellular engineering, drug delivery and nanotechnology. He has co-written two successful textbooks and edited several research monographs. King also is the Editor-in-Chief of Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering, a journal of the Biomedical Engineering Society.
Among his recognitions are a National Science Foundation CAREER Award, a James D. Watson Investigator Award, a Whitaker Foundation Whitaker Investigator, and two teaching awards. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, the Biomedical Engineering Society, and the International Academy of Biological Engineering.
