Robert E. Stammer Jr, P.E., associate professor of civil engineering, has been elected an International Director of the Institute of Transportation Engineers at the Southern District meeting in Charleston, S.C. in April.
Stammer will serve a three-year term, 2009-2012, on ITE’s International Board of Directors representing the Southern District, which is comprised of ITE members from Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
He is the first Tennessean elected to this position in more than 20 years. Professor Stammer is a past president of the Southern District, and he served as co-chair of ITE’s 2000 annual meeting in Nashville. He currently is in the second year of a three-year term as chairman of ITE’s Expert Witness Council.
