Civil engineer Mickey Sullivan (BE’71, ME’79), P.E., regional vice president of Gresham, Smith and Partners, was named “Outstanding Engineer of the Year” by the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) Nashville chapter.
Sullivan was honored for his sustained contributions to the engineering industry, which have improved the public welfare and the advancement of his profession. Mickey was recognized during 2011 Engineers Week at the TSPE Nashville Chapter “All Engineers Banquet” held in February.
With more than 35 years of experience, Sullivan has served as principal-in-charge of numerous projects involving building site designs, master planning for community comprehensive plans, transportation and traffic studies, highway and bridge designs, and greenways and streetscapes.
Prior to joining GS&P, Mickey held the position of associate director of the Metropolitan Department of Public Works for Nashville and Davidson County. While serving as project manager within the Nashville District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) he coordinated all work associated with the master planning, real estate acquisition and development of the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area for the National Park Service.
Throughout his career, he has remained active in professional organizations including the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), the Society of Military Engineers (SAME), the Tennessee Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). In 2005 he was named among the “Top Ten Public Works Leaders of the Year” by the National APWA. Engaged in the community, Mickey is involved with a number of organizations including the Nashville Chamber of Commerce, Vanderbilt University, and the United Way of Metro Nashville where he is a past board member.
The TSPE is a state society of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). TSPE is the only engineering society in Tennessee that represents individual engineering professionals and licensed engineers across all disciplines.
