The Vanderbilt Alumni Association announced April 1 that senior Leslie Labruto will serve as the 2011 Young Alumni Trustee, where alongside the current trustees, she will seek to provide both the current student and young alumni perspectives to the Board of Trust.
Labruto is a Civil Engineering major with a double minor in Engineering Management and Energy & Environmental Systems. As President of SPEAR, she led an initiative in partnership with VSG to secure Vanderbilt’s $75,000 Green Fund for sustainable student initiatives on campus.
She also helped create Vanderbilt’s first “Humanitarian Senior Design Project” which aims to bring renewable energy to a community in Guatemala.
For her 21st birthday, Labruto raised $5,647 to benefit her Charity: Water campaign.
According to the Alumni Association, the Vanderbilt Board of Trust includes four Young Alumni Trustees who bring the knowledge and viewpoints of young alumni and current students to the Board.
