K. Arthur Overholser, senior associate dean of the school of engineering and professor of biomedical engineering and chemical engineering, has been selected to join ABET’s (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) Academic Advisory Council. The AAC’s inaugural meeting was October 2010.
The council provides a formal means for the academic community to share its perspective, give advice, and communicate with the ABET leadership in such areas as accreditation; issues related to applied science, computing, engineering, and technology education; and feedback on proposed programs, procedures and policies relating to higher education.
The AAC represents programs accredited under all four ABET commissions and addresses issues related to all four commissions. The council includes approximately 16 deans, associate deans, and other academic leaders representing interests in the four ABET commissions approximately by percentage of ABET program accreditations.
