Cummings named associate editor of the flagship journal of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers

Effective January 1, 2012, Peter Cummings will assume the role of an associate editor of the AIChE Journal, the flagship journal of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Peter Cummings

Cummings is the John R. Hall Professor of Chemical Engineering in the department of chemical and biomolecular engineering at Vanderbilt University. He also is Principal Scientist, Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

His primary responsibility will be manuscripts in molecular modeling, computational nanoscience, computational biology and process design. Cummings joins six other associate editors and the Editor-in-Chief.

In order to take on this responsibility, Cummings will step down, effective December 31, 2011, as editor of Fluid Phase Equilibria (FPE), the premier chemical engineering thermodynamics journal.  Cummings has been an editor of FPE since 2000, during which time its impact factor has approximately doubled.

Cummings is a fellow of the American Physical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He received the Founder’s Award from American Institute of Chemical Engineers in 2010. He will receive the 2012 Yeram S. Touloukian Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in June and will present the Touloukian lecture during the opening plenary session of the ASME conference.
