The School of Engineering hosted a Dean’s Hour event for parents and families of undergraduate engineering students visiting for Family Weekend at Adams Atrium in Featheringill Hall 3-4 pm, Oct. 12. About 150 guests socialized with engineering leaders, faculty and staff members while soaking up the School’s atmosphere.
Families at the Dean’s Hour event came from 32 states and one foreign country. Maryann and Carlos Fernandez left their home in New Mexico five days prior to allow time to drive the nearly 1,000 miles to visit with biomedical engineering junior student Leandra Fernandez and attend the football game.
Some families were not only enjoying the rich campus experience, but the local eateries as well. Taking a “do what the locals do” approach, sophomore chemical engineering student Philip Schapiro’s family from Connecticut has a trip to Southern, family-style favorite, Monell’s restaurant, on the weekend itinerary.
Vanderbilt University’s annual Family Weekend kicked off Friday, Oct. 12, and ran through Sunday, Oct. 14. In addition to the Dean’s Hour event, the weekend offers a myriad of events – from a faculty lecture series, football game, tours and cultural events to multiple student performances, and even an illusionist– that helped families get to know the university better while spending time with their students.
