Vanderbilt University, in conjunction with The University of Memphis, will sponsor Biomaterials Day at the University Club of Nashville March 15, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
This one day symposium will enhance networking between academic, industrial and government sectors and will increase student exposure to exciting biomaterials research. Regional high school, undergraduate and graduate students interested in the biomaterials field attend the event.
The Vanderbilt symposium will showcase a networking luncheon and reception with panel discussions on career development, technical writing and FDA approval with invited lectures by leading engineers and researchers in the field.
Jason Burdick, associate professor of bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania, will deliver the keynote speech. He is a member of the Laboratory for Research on the Structure of Matter, the Penn Genome Frontiers Institute and the Center for Engineering Cells and Regeneration and a recipient of the Edward C. Nagy New Investigator Award and the NSF CAREER award. His research focuses on the development of polymer networks that can be used for understanding stem cell behavior, tissue regeneration and drug delivery.
Presentations from academic and industrial researchers will report ongoing research in the region and promote collaboration and knowledge exchange between institutions and industry. In addition, abstracts will be solicited for a poster session that will provide a venue for student research presentations and networking.
