The Engineering Council is giving students from the School of Engineering and across campus a day of fun, uplifting and educational activities on Nov. 15.
The council itself and six of the clubs within it are sponsoring events, all of those in and around the Featheringill Hall atrium.
“We were able to build off the success of last year’s events and throw in some new ones. We’re especially excited about the speaker, who discovered an element,” said Chris Motyczka (CS’18), E-Council president.
He’s referring to Joseph Hamilton, the Landon C. Garland Distinguished Professor of Physics at Vanderbilt, who played a key role in discovering element 117 – added to the periodic table this year as tennessine. Hamilton speaks in the Jacobs Believed in Me Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. during a catered dinner.
E-Council member Khloe Gordon (ChBE’17) said she appreciates the medical kit building session from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Typically, the group builds electronic components for equipment.
“We have special skills as engineers, and some of those should be used to help other people,” she said.

6:30 p.m., dinner and a speech by Landon C. Garland Distinguished Professor of Physics Joseph Hamilton, sponsored by the E-Council
7:30-9:30 p.m., code golf, sponsored by VandyApps
E-Week is set for Feb. 19-25, 2017.
