The Vanderbilt Board of Trust has named Aditya Karhade as Young Alumni Leader. He will join the board July 1, 2018 for a two-year term. Karhade just completed a three-year term on the Alumni Association Board.
Karhade, of Roxbury Crossing, Massachusetts, is currently pursuing a medical degree from Harvard Medical School and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He earned his bachelor’s in biomedical engineering in 2015.
As an undergraduate student, he was a research assistant in Vanderbilt’s Laboratory for Biotechnology and Nanomedicine, in Functional Neurosurgery at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and at the Mayo Clinic in the summer of 2013. In summer 2014, he was a research fellow at the University of Leipzig, Germany.
He also participated in the Multicultural Leadership Council, Vanderbilt Student Volunteers for Science, Alternative Spring Break and Vanderbilt Engineering World Health. In addition, Karhade has been a member of the undergraduate Honor Council, the engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi, and a peer mentor for VUcept.
In 2011, Karhade founded BhangraDores, a South Asian dance troupe for students that specializes in Bhangra, a form of Indian music and dance from the 11th century that competes nationally. Karhade was elected as Vanderbilt’s first Young Alumni Leader in April 2015.
He is a CoRPs volunteer, a GOLD class agent, a Senior Class Fund volunteer and a Giving Day ambassador.
