Data Science Institute Summer Research Program info session for undergraduates is Nov. 9

The Vanderbilt Data Science Institute will host an information session for undergraduate students interested in data science research on Tuesday, Nov. 9, beginning at 4 p.m. CT.

The virtual event will feature a program overview, how to find a mentor, tips for submitting a standout application, and a panel of prior student participants for a question-and-answer session.

The Data Science Institute Summer Research Program (DSI–SRP) provides Vanderbilt undergraduate students with the opportunity to engage in 10 weeks of full-time data science-focused research in collaboration with any full-time Vanderbilt faculty member during the summer. The goal of DSI–SRP is to encourage and enhance student-faculty mentoring and joint research efforts in data science.

The summer 2022 program will be held from June 6 to Aug. 12.

DSI–SRP fellows come from a diverse range of backgrounds and domains. Proposed research is welcome from the following areas:

  • foundational data science
  • the development, evolution or implementation of data science methods
  • the application of data science to one or more fields in the physical, life or social sciences, engineering, arts or humanities
  • the study of the impact of data on society and its institutions
