Audrey K. Bowden, Dorothy J. Wingfield Phillips Chancellor Faculty Fellow and associate professor of biomedical engineering and electrical engineering, has been elected to the SPIE Board of Directors. She will serve a three-year term.
SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, is operated through an elected Board of Directors who establish various standing and ad hoc committees to conduct activities of interest to its members. Candidates for board membership are drawn from government, academia and industry.
The board and its executive committee also establish policy and strategy, assure that bylaws are followed in the conduct of Society business, and approve the Society’s budgets.
Bowden is a fellow of SPIE, The Optical Society, and AIMBE. Recently, she was selected to receive a Lewis Latimer Fellowship for Black innovators. She is the recipient of a number of awards and honors, including young investigator and teaching awards. Bowden joined the School of Engineering in 2018 from Stanford University.
Bowden received a B.S.E. degree in electrical engineering from Princeton University and a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Duke University. She completed postdoctoral training in chemistry and chemical biology at Harvard University.
