The Vanderbilt School of Engineering announced that it is waiving the $95 application fee for candidates applying to its esteemed Ph.D. program for admission in Summer/Fall 2024 and Spring 2025. Those who have already paid the application fee will be given a full refund. All graduate programs in the School of Engineering will also continue their practice of not requiring GRE scores.
“Vanderbilt offers one of the world’s premier Engineering doctorate programs across a range of disciplines that are all engaged in the grand societal challenges of our time,” said Krishnendu Roy, Bruce and Bridgitt Evans Dean and University Distinguished Professor. “We seek the best and brightest students from around the world to join our Ph.D. programs and never want applicants to be deterred from exploring Vanderbilt because of financial barriers.”
A tier-1 research powerhouse, Vanderbilt and the affiliated Vanderbilt University Medical Center receive approximately $1 billion annually in external research funding from agencies including the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the U.S. Departments of Defense and Energy, ranking Vanderbilt in the top-25 nationally for federal R&D funding.
The School of Engineering maintains a roughly 5:1 ratio of tenure track faculty members to Ph.D. students. Doctoral programs are offered in the following subject areas:
- Biomedical Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Computer Science
- Electrical and Computer Engineering
- Environmental Engineering
- Interdisciplinary Materials Science
- Mechanical Engineering
“Our Ph.D. programs offer educational experiences and research facilities that are among the world’s best, yet we are nimble enough to take a uniquely personalized approach with each candidate,” said E. Duco Jansen, the School of Engineering’s senior associate dean for graduate education and faculty affairs. “By waiving our application fee this year, we are inviting all prospective students to look for themselves at our remarkable environment. We’re confident they’ll like what we have to offer and will submit their application to join one of our outstanding Ph.D. programs.”
