About
TLSAMP is a collaborative effort sustained by a coalition of six colleges and universities in the state of Tennessee to significantly increase the number of underrepresented minority students statewide. Students must complete undergraduate degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
This goal will be accomplished through the implementation of a comprehensive and integrated series of recruitment and retention initiatives from undergraduate recruitment through preparation for graduate school.

Goals of VU TLSAMP
Vanderbilt University is a partner in the Tennessee Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation TLSAMP). The goal of TLSAMP is to increase the number of underrepresented minority students who receive bachelor's degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in the State of Tennessee by at least 100% within a five-year period.
To reach this goal, we have three objectives:
- to recruit underrepresented Vanderbilt students to pursue science, mathematics, or engineering as a career,
- to improve the quality of the learning environment for underrepresented STEM students at Vanderbilt
- to ensure that a larger number of Vanderbilt undergraduates are prepared to enter graduate programs.
This program is designed to provide student support in effort to help students successfully complete their STEM degree program. TLSAMP offers:
- a tutorial program
- a mentoring program
- a research symposium
- undergraduate research opportunities may be available
- internship opportunities may be available
- stipends for students who choose to become active members of TLSAMP.
If you are a minority student majoring in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics you are eligible to participate and are encouraged to become an active participant in the TLSAMP program.
