Gokhale receives Distinguished Professor award from Construction Industry Institute

Sanjiv Gokhale, professor of the practice in civil engineering, is the recipient of the 2009 Distinguished Professor award by the Construction Industry Institute (CII). The award was created this year and will be presented at CII’s annual conference in July

In 2009, CII created a new recognition for full-time or adjunct faculty at graduate or undergraduate programs who incorporated published CII research findings in the courses they taught over the previous calendar year. The award is sponsored by the Professional Development Committee.

Gokale will receive the award at the CII annual conference in Reno, Nevada, July 28-30, along with Professor Jesús M. de la Garza, of Virginia Tech.

A structural engineer by education and training, Gokhale has been involved in the design, construction, and program management of a variety of institutional, commercial, and recreational facilities. Gokhale teaches undergraduates courses in civil engineering, and graduate courses in the construction management area.

The Construction Industry Institute, based at the University of Texas at Austin, is a consortium of over 100 leading owner, engineering-contractor, and supplier companies from both the public and private arenas. CII was established in 1983 to create and implement research-based knowledge for improving the delivery of capital facilities.
