Sanjiv Gokhale, professor of the practice in civil engineering and director of the Construction Management Program, has been elected as a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Gokhale is a structural engineer and has been involved in the design, construction, and program management of a variety of institutional, commercial, and recreational facilities. He teaches undergraduates courses in civil engineering, and graduate courses in construction management.
He received the Vanderbilt University School of Engineering Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2005, and was named Tau Beta Pi Teacher of the Year in 2004. He has authored numerous papers on construction technologies and management, and serves as a consultant/expert witness in various construction contract disputes and litigation.
Gokhale earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, an M.S. in Civil Engineering from Vanderbilt University, an M.Phil. in Applied Mathematics from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Columbia University.
ASCE Fellow is the second-highest membership grade, after that of Honorary Member. Fellow status must be attained by professional accomplishments via application and election by the Membership Application Review Committee (MARC). It is an honor held by fewer than 6 percent of ASCE members.
