The Vanderbilt Career Center (VCC) hosted an inaugural spring Engineering Industry Career Day with 36 companies in attendance on February 3 from 10am-2pm. Industry Career Days serve as one of many ways to interact with potential employers. Nearly 90% of those in attendance were undergraduate and graduate School of Engineering students seeking internship opportunities and post-graduate positions. Many of the employers were seeking students with computing skills regardless of industry or targeted majors.
The School of Engineering supplemented the Career Day by hosting networking events including an Industry Networking Night which was well-attended by 57 student leaders, 30 representatives, 11 companies with two faculty sponsors.
The Industry Career Days are invitation-only events which offer a smaller, more intimate atmosphere in order to facilitate connections between employers and Vanderbilt’s top talent. Students attend these events seeking full-time and internship opportunities and to connect with companies of interest. VCC and the School of Engineering were pleased with the turnout of the inaugural spring event and will strive to further diversify the industries represented in the future.
VCC designs and delivers services that seek to connect students, alumni and employers for mutual benefit. Working in collaboration with faculty and campus partners, the VCC staff assists students in the development of individual action plans that make the most of their Vanderbilt education, resources and connections to secure employment.
