Vanderbilt engineers’ startups snag 3 of 10 Spark Nashville spots

Three of 10 startups presenting at the Spark Nashville elevator pitch competition are creations of Vanderbilt University School of Engineering doctoral and post-doctoral students.

• PinPTR, developed by Will Hedgecock, is a GPS-based locator technology that’s cost-effective with unprecedented accuracy.
• FlashCrystal, developed by Charleson Bell, instantly uploads music, artists’ websites and more from the Internet straight to NFC-enabled mobile devices.
• SpotWise, developed by Zach McCormick, detects where cars are parked and how long they’ve been there.

The teams will be judged in five categories that rate their urgency, use of technology and potential success.

The event, presented by SouthernAlpha news website, is 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Events on 3rd in downtown Nashville. Read more and purchase tickets here.
