Tran receives IEEE cyber-physical systems dissertation award

Hoang-Dung Tran has received the 2021 IEEE Technical Committee on Cyber-Physical Systems Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award.

The IEEE TCCPS dissertation award recognizes outstanding Ph.D. dissertations that have contributed significantly to the advancement of theory and/or applications in cyber-physical systems. The award consists of a plaque and a citation.

Hoang-Dung Tran, PhD’20 in computer science

Tran’s thesis ‘‘Verification of Learning-enabled Cyber-Physical Systems,’’ August 2020, is recognized ‘‘for the application of star sets in the scalable verification of neural networks in cyber-physical systems.’’

Tran, who earned his doctorate in computer science in August 2020, was a member of Verification and Validation for Intelligent and Trustworthy Autonomy Laboratory (VeriVITAL), led by his adviser Taylor T. Johnson, assistant professor of computer engineering, computer science and electrical engineering.

Tran is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
