Biden announces appointment of engineering alumnus to the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee

President Joe Biden announced Feb. 3 his intent to appoint Corey E. Thomas, BE’98, as one of 14 new members of the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee.

The National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC) advises the White House on the reliability, security, and preparedness of vital communications and information infrastructure. The new appointees will join previously appointed NSTAC members to provide national security and emergency preparedness solutions by providing innovative policy recommendations backed by a unique industry perspective.

Corey Thomas

Thomas is the CEO of Rapid7, as well as the chairman of its Board of Directors. In 2021, he became a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and was appointed class-C Director and Deputy Chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.

Thomas serves on the Vanderbilt University Board of Trust and in 2022 he was named to the School of Engineering’s Academy of Distinguished Alumni. Thomas also serves on the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Board of Directors, and LPL Financial Board of Directors.

He is an active angel investor to technology companies and advisor to organizations undergoing technology transformation. He previously served on the U.S. Commerce Department’s Digital Economy Board of Advisors. Thomas has extensive experience leading technology companies to the next stage of growth and innovation.

Prior to joining Rapid7, Thomas spent time at Parallels, Inc., Microsoft, Deloitte Consulting, and AT&T. Thomas received a Bachelor of Engineering in electrical engineering and computer science from Vanderbilt University and his MBA from Harvard Business School.
