With more than 40 engineering-specific funds and three School of Engineering alumni challenges, students, alumni, faculty, staff and parents have a multitude of ways to support the school during Giving Day 2023: Dare to Grow, a 24-hour event Thursday, April 27.
The tradition of Giving Day is in its seventh year. This year, the goal is 8,000 donors in one day. The minimum gift amount is $1. Gifts are tax deductible and can be made on mobile devices.
The three engineering alumni-sponsored challenges are:
- When $100,000 is donated to the School of Engineering, a gift of $100,000 from Calvin Schmidt, BE’90, will be unlocked to support a summer bridge program for first year engineering students from underrepresented groups
- When 50 donors give to the Underrepresented Student Engineering Program, a $150,000 gift from Trustee Corey Thomas, BE’98, will be unlocked.
- When 50 donors give to the Women in Engineering Leadership Program, a $150,000 gift from Cynthia Julien Warner, BE’80, will be unlocked.
“Giving Day is an opportunity to help advance the school’s mission of education, discovery and leadership by making a gift of any size. It also is a chance to celebrate the impact that philanthropy has on the student experience,” said Philippe Fauchet, Bruce and Bridgitt Evans Dean of Engineeering. “For example, donor’s gifts support immersive, hands-on learning experiences beyond the classroom that are fundamental to developing talented engineers.”
Donors’ gifts also go toward scholarships to attract talented students, grants for student-driven research projects, stipends for graduate student fellowships, and funding to enable student participation in professional organizations through conference attendance and other activities, and to transform the school’s learning spaces. Donors also can make gifts to engineering student organizations.
In 2022, the School of Engineering landed at #3 in the Giving Day Leaderboards with 463 donors and a total of $543,860.20. Earlier in the evening, the school had reached #1 but was eclipsed by the Owen Graduate School of Management, 428/$573,621.83; and athletics, 713/$1,442,608.90.
