Tech talk on Mathematica 8 is Sept. 13

A representative from Wolfram Research, the maker of Mathematica, will give a free tech talk about Mathematica 8 on Thursday, Sept. 13. Mathematica is a computational software program used in scientific, engineering and mathematical fields and other areas of technical computing.

Troy Schaudt will speak from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Stevenson Center, Room 1206.

He will illustrate capabilities in Mathematica 8 that are directly applicable for use in teaching and research on campus. Topics include:

  • Free-form linguistic input
  • 2D and 3D visualization
  • Dynamic interactivity and on-demand scientific data
  • Example-driven course materials
  • Symbolic interface construction
  • Digital image processing, parallelization and control systems functionality

Current users will benefit from seeing the improvements and new features of Mathematica 8, but prior knowledge of Mathematica is not required.
