Statement of Accreditation
The Bachelor of Engineering degree program in civil engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org , under the General Criteria and the Program Criteria for Civil and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.
Program Educational Objectives
Program Educational Objectives are defined by ABET as broad statements that describe the career and professional accomplishments that the program is preparing graduates to achieve.
Civil engineering graduates are expected to attain, within a few years of graduation, the following::
1. Successful employment in civil engineering or related industries, in academia, or in government; or
2. Engagement in the pursuit of an advanced degree in engineering or other disciplines.
Student Outcomes
Student Outcomes are statements that describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. Seven suggested outcomes are provided by ABET and these have been adopted by the program faculty of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. These outcomes are as follows:
Graduates of the Civil Engineering program will demonstrate:
- An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics,
- An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors,
- An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences,
- An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, environmental, and societal contexts,
- An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives,
- An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions, and
- An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
Student Enrollment and Graduation Rates
The official enrollment is determined each semester on the 22nd day of class. As of Fall 2023, 82 undergraduate students were enrolled in the civil engineering program.
